Nowcast as of 5:22 PM CDT on July 25, 2008
    Now
Isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop this afternoon due to the heating of the day...mainly across east Arkansas...northeast Mississippi and northwest Tennessee. But showers and storms may pop up over the rest of the mid south. Rainfall amounts will be light with the showers...generally only a few hundredths of an inch and with storms or heavier showers around a quarter to half inch or more. Storms will also contain frequent lightning. A southeast movement is occurring with the showers and storms.

    Warnings and Notices
    Severe Thunderstorm Watch
    Sponsored by State Farm

Statement as of 6:40 PM CDT on July 25, 2008

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

           northeast Arkansas
           extreme southern Illinois
           extreme western Kentucky
           southeast Missouri
           extreme northwest Tennessee

Effective this Friday night and Saturday morning from 640 PM
    until 200 am CDT.

Hail to 1 inch in diameter... thunderstorm wind gusts to 70
mph... and dangerous lightning are possible in these areas.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch area is approximately along and 90
statute miles east and west of a line from 10 miles north
northeast of Jefferson City Missouri to 25 miles south southwest
of Dyersburg Tennessee. For a complete depiction of the watch
see the associated watch outline update (wous64 kwns wou2).

Remember... a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch
area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally
    do produce tornadoes.

Other watch information... continue... ww 749... ww 750... ww 751...

Discussion... expanding clusters of intense thunderstorms expected to
continue to pose primarily a damaging wind threat through this
evening. Activity is developing within very unstable conditions and
along residual outflow reinforced frontal zone draped NW-se across
the region. Large scale ascent may be enhanced as weak MCS tracks
across nrn MO while narrow belt of 30-40kt nwly mid level flow may
aid storm persistence/intensity. Bulk of activity is currently
exhibiting multicellular characteristics where storm mergers in
highly unstable air should support damaging downburst winds. With
time... these mergers may allow a larger cluster of storms to persist
and spread esewd into wrn KY/TN with wind damage and marginal hail
    threats continuing.

Aviation... a few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft
to 1 inch. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60 knots.
A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 550. Mean storm motion
    vector 29025.
