Statement as of 11:32 AM CDT on March 19, 2010 ... Winter Storm Watch now in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening... The Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening. * Timing and areas affected... rain will change to a mix of rain... sleet... and snow Saturday afternoon and evening across southwest Missouri mainly along and west of Highway 65. Precipitation will continue through Sunday. * Snow and sleet accumulation... snowfall accumulations up to 6 inches will be possible across southwest Missouri by the time the storm ends late Sunday. Sleet along with minor ice accumulations will also be possible which could reduce snowfall totals. Most of the accumulation of sleet and snow will begin Saturday evening. Uncertainty remains in the exact precipitation type and amounts. * Impacts... Road conditions may deteriorate by Saturday evening into Sunday morning as temperatures fall to near freezing. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant snow and sleet accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
