Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 13, 2012.

The trough of low pressure that brought unsettled weather to the West on Sunday will advance into the Plains on Monday with more mixed precipitation. The trough will support a low and associated warm front moving eastward into the Southern Plains. As the system progresses, rain showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will spread from parts of central/eastern Texas into western Louisiana, mixed precipitation will develop in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, and snow will blanket parts of the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley, and parts of the western Ohio Valley. Areas from eastern Texas through Arkansas should expect the heaviest precipitation totals. Heightened winter weather conditions will allow Winter Weather Advisories and a few Winter Storm Warnings to remain in effect through the day. Elsewhere east of the Continental Divide, lake-effect snow showers will continue along parts of the Lower Great Lakes Snowbelt.

In the West, a Pacific cold front pushing across the Pacific Northwest will drop southward across northern California, bringing coastal and valley rain and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevadas.

Winter Weather Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 7:31 AM CST on February 13, 2012

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight CST
tonight...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow remains in effect until
midnight CST tonight.

* Short term trends... periods of light snow will continue this
morning. Reports from spotters indicate general storm total
snow amounts ranging from a half inch to an inch and a quarter
so far. The Kansas and Missouri departments of transportation
indicate that most roads are snow covered or partially snow
covered. Numerous traffic accidents have been reported.

* Timing and areas affected... periods of light to occasionally moderate
snow can be expected over the region today. As an upper level
system moves through the region this afternoon... periods of
somewhat heavier snow may be possible. Some intervals of drizzle
and freezing drizzle will also be possible... particularly late
this afternoon and this evening.

* Snow accumulation... light snow with occasional periods of
moderate snow will gradually accumulate through this evening. A
storm total snow accumulation of one to three inches with
locally heavier amounts is expected.

* Ice accumulations... freezing drizzle is expected to develop in
some areas this afternoon and this evening. An ice accumulation of
one tenth of an inch or less will be possible for areas along
and south of the Highway 60 Corridor. North of the Highway 60
corridor... an ice accumulation of a few hundredths of an inch
will be possible.

* Impacts... Road surfaces will be slick today. See the latest Missouri
and Kansas Department of Transportation web sites (modot.Org and
ksdot.Org) for the latest Road conditions and traffic alerts.
Drive slowly and carefully. Be prepared for completely snow
covered roads... or at the very least slick areas... especially on
bridges and overpasses.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow
will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow
covered roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.
