... Flash Flood Watch now in effect from this evening through
Monday morning...

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of southeast Kansas and Missouri... including the
following areas... in southeast Kansas... Bourbon... Cherokee
and Crawford. In Missouri... Barton... Benton... Cedar... Dade...
Hickory... Morgan... Polk... St. Clair and Vernon.

* From this evening through Monday morning

* multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will impact
southeastern Kansas and southwestern Missouri this weekend.
Moderate to occasionally heavy rain will develop tonight over
southeast Kansas and far western Missouri tonight with a slow
eastward spread toward the Highway 65 corridor on Sunday.
Heaviest rainfall will generally fall along and west of
Interstate 49 Sunday night. Most of the rain will have ended by
Monday morning to the north of Interstate 44 by Monday morning
with some lingering rain possible to the south of the Interstate
on Memorial Day. Total rainfall amounts of one and a half to
near three inches are expected by Memorial Day.

* This excessive rainfall may result in flash flooding of small
streams and low water crossings as well as significant rises
and flooding of some main Stem rivers.

River basins potentially impacted by heavy rainfall and flooding
include the Osage... Little Osage... Marmaton and Spring River

Those with outdoor recreational plans over southeast Kansas into
western Missouri this Memorial Day weekend including camping and
floating along area rivers and streams should be alert for rising
water levels.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
