Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday, May 26, 2012.

Subtropical Storm Beryl formed late Friday off the Carolina Coast and is expected to move slowly southwestward over the weekend. The storm may maintain tropical storm strength as it approaches the northeast coast of Florida later Sunday night. The storm itself may dump a significant amount of rain on this part of Florida and adjacent areas of Georgia, potentially good news to an area that is currently in an exceptional drought.

The main weather feature over the nation will be a low pressure system moving off the Rockies and into the Plains on Saturday. Flow around this system continues pushing a warm front eastward, over the Plains and through the Midwest. Expect widespread showers and thunderstorms to develop along this frontal boundary, from the Northern and Central Plains through the Great Lakes. Some of these storms will turn severe with strong winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall. Severe thunderstorms are most likely over Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. By Saturday evening, the tail end of this system will reach the Northeast, bringing lighter and more widespread showers and thunderstorms to the region.

The back side of this broad low pressure system will continue pulling cool air in from Canada. This will allow for rain showers to turn to snow showers at the highest elevations of the Northern Rockies, Intermountain West, and Central Rockies. At the same time, strong and gusty winds will persist for the southern side of this system. In combination with warm and dry conditions, this will maintain high fire danger for the Southwest and Southern Rockies.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue moving into the area. Through 1230 PM...look for most of the rain to be west of a line from Adams Minnesota...to Neillsville Wisconsin...to Perkinstown Wisconsin. The strongest storms with locally heavy rain and lightning should move through Dodge Center Minnesota and into Rochester. Rainfall amounts up to a half inch will be possible from 1115 am to 1230 PM.

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
southwestern Olmsted County in southeast Minnesota...

* until 1245 PM CDT

* at 1203 PM CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
severe thunderstorm located 6 miles northwest of Rock Dell... or 7
miles south of Mantorville... moving east at 35 mph. This storm can
produce quarter size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.

* The severe thunderstorm will be near...
Salem Corners around 1215 PM...
Rochester and Rochester Airport around 1225 PM...
Simpson and Pleasant Grove around 1230 PM...

... Strong to severe thunderstorms moving across southeast
Minnesota...

A cluster of strong to severe thunderstorms extended from near
Albert Lea to Red Wing Minnesota and will be approaching Rochester
and Austin Minnesota shortly. They could affect Winona... Chatfield
and possibly La Crosse in the next 1 to 2 hours.

These storms will likely move east early this afternoon and will
bring a threat for heavy rain... lightning... occasional hail and
gusty winds.

If you have outdoor plans... be ready to move to shelter. Do not stay
outdoors when lightning is in the vicinity. A round of heavy rain
could cause ponding of water as well.
