Moderate to heavy snow bands are moving north out of Iowa into southern Minnesota...along with pockets of sleet and freezing rain. Expect this heavy snow to move north across I-90 between La Crosse Wisconsin and Sioux Falls South Dakota...up to the Minnesota river around Redwood Falls and New Ulm...past Mankato up to Le Sueur by around 600 PM. Heavy snows will move north up 1-35 from the Iowa line through Albert Lea and Owatonna...up to Faribault...Northfield Zumbrota...Lake City and Red Wing by around 600 PM too. Light snow and freezing drizzle has fallen across this area all day...so expect a nasty slick and messy commute through this area the rest of tonight.

* Timing... snow will begin this afternoon across southern Minnesota with accumulating snow beginning this evening.
* Accumulations... significant amounts of snow will occur with periods of heavy snow likely as the storm intensifies Thursday afternoon into Friday. Snow amounts by Thursday morning of two to five inches are expected. Total snowfall accumulations by Saturday morning will likely exceed one foot in many areas... with scattered totals in excess of 20 inches probable.
* Mixed precipitation... periods of sleet are probable and possibly freezing rain during this storm... primarily Thursday and Thursday night.
* Surface visibility will be reduced as the event continues due to increasing wind speeds and blowing snow.
