Statement as of 10:22 AM CST on December 25, 2009 ... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until noon CST Saturday... A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until noon CST Saturday. * Timing... snow will continue today through Saturday... with slowly diminishing snowfall rates tonight and Saturday. Widespread blowing and drifting snow will occur... especially today and tonight. * Accumulations... additional snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches are expected this afternoon through Saturday. Widespread storm total snowfall of 15 to 20 inches will be common through Saturday with locally higher amounts expected. Some drifts in rural areas may well exceed 6 feet. * Wind and visibility... north to northwest winds today will average 10 to 20 mph with some higher gusts. Winds will again increase to 20 to 30 mph this evening. This will cause considerable blowing and drifting snow... with near blizzard conditions at times in open areas. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous... if not impossible at times. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. 97
