...Severe weather awareness week in Minnesota and Wisconsin...

This is severe weather awareness week in Minnesota and Wisconsin. The topic today is flash flooding.

Flooding and flash flooding are the leading thunderstorm related killers. Last year 84 people were killed by flooding across the United States.

Flash flooding is a rapid rise in flood waters and can catch people off guard...especially at night. Excessive or repeat thunderstorm rains can lead to flash flooding and close roads that people normally drive through. Flood waters can also erode sections of Road causing gaps or dangerous holes.

Never drive into or cross high water. The flow of fast moving water is often too strong to maintain control. Two feet of water will make most cars float.

When you come across flood waters...turn around. Dont drown.
