Statement as of 3:30 AM EDT on July 11, 2009 Northwest winds will become gusty today... behind a cool front moving through the region this morning. This will result in choppy waves... and bring a risk for rip currents on Lake Michigan beaches of northern lower Michigan. As a reminder... rip currents are strong... narrow channels of water that flow away from the beach. If caught in a rip current... swim parallel to the shore until out of the current... then swim back to the shore.

Statement as of 5:45 am EDT on July 10, 2009 ... Record low maximum temperature set at Gaylord on July 7th... The temperature only reached a high of 58 degrees in Gaylord on Tuesday July 7th. This was the lowest high temperature ever recorded for this date... breaking the record of 60 degrees set in 2004. Records at Otsego County Airport have been partially established from co-op data.
