... Significant winter storm possible over Upper Michigan late
Christmas eve through Christmas...

A strong low pressure system will move out of Missouri on Thursday
and track into central Upper Michigan on Saturday. This projected
track is expected to bring wet heavy snow to much of Upper
Michigan Thursday night into Christmas day. At this point it
appears the heaviest snow will fall over the west half of Upper
Michigan... away from the Lake Michigan shorelines. In
addition... warm air wrapping in ahead of the system could bring a
mix of rain and snow to areas near Lake Michigan... and to a lesser
extent... areas east of a line from Marquette to Menominee.
Elsewhere across Upper Michigan the precipitation is expected to
stay in the form of snow.

Holiday travelers should stay tuned to later forecasts and
statements from the National Weather Service in Marquette
regarding this developing winter storm.

A strong low pressure system developing over the Southern Plains
on Wednesday is expected to lift toward the western Great Lakes
late Thursday into Christmas day. The projected track of the storm
could bring wet heavy snow to much of Upper Michigan Christmas eve
night into Christmas day. Warmer air wrapping in ahead of the
system could bring a mix of rain and snow to areas east of a line
from Marquette to Menominee. Current indications are that the
precipitation will stay in the form of snow over far western
Upper Michigan... while rain would mainly occur along the Lake
Michigan shoreline.

Deep moisture and colder air wrapping in behind the storm could
bring the potential for additional significant lake enhanced
snowfall across western Upper Michigan Friday night into the
Holiday weekend.

Since the exact track of the low pressure system remains uncertain...
it is not clear yet which areas will be impacted with the heaviest
snow. Holiday travelers should stay tuned to later forecasts and
statements from the National Weather Service in Marquette.
