... Lake effect Snow Advisory in effect from 10 am this morning to
8 PM EST this evening...
... Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Tuesday evening
through late Wednesday night...
The National Weather Service in Marquette has issued a lake
effect Snow Advisory for lake effect snow... which is in effect
from 10 am this morning to 8 PM EST this evening. A Winter Storm
Watch remains in effect from Tuesday evening through late Wednesday
night.
* Lake effect snow showers will become focused from Marquette to
Munising by late this morning as winds become onshore. Expect
total snow accumulations by late this evening of 2 to 5 inches
with localized higher amounts. Motorists travelling between
Marquette and Munising later today... especially along M-28...
should be prepared for visibilities reduced to a half mile at
times. Snow showers will diminish by midnight tonight.
* Widespread snow will move into Upper Michigan Tuesday evening
and increase in intensity Tuesday night. The snow will begin to
taper off later Wednesday. However... strong winds will produce
significant blowing snow into Wednesday evening. In addition... the
strong north winds will also result in heavy lake effect snow
showers downwind from Lake Superior through Wednesday night.
* Snow accumulations of 10 inches or more are possible Tuesday
night through Wednesday night.
* The main impact will be snow covered roads and reduced
visibility with blowing snow in open areas.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant
snow accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor
the latest forecasts.
A lake effect Snow Advisory Means Lake-effect snow is forecast
that will make travel difficult in some areas. Lake-effect snow
showers typically align themselves in bands and will likely be
intense enough to drop several inches in localized areas. Use
caution when traveling.
