Statement as of 8:07 AM CST on December 22, 2009 ... Strong storm to impact Holiday travel... A strong low pressure system will develop over the Southern Plains Wednesday... then lift northeast into the Midwest by Friday. Precipitation is expected to develop along and west of Route 31 Wednesday night or early Thursday. Precipitation will initially begin as sleet and freezing rain... but is expected to begin the transition to plain rain from south to north Thursday afternoon. Areas north of Route 30 over far northern Indiana... Northwest Ohio and far southwest Michigan may linger below freezing during the afternoon and possibly into the evening where the greatest potential for ice will be. Untreated surfaces will likely be slick... causing travel issues. Travel throughout much of the Midwest will be impacted by this storm system. Listen to NOAA Weather Radio or your local media for later updates on this situation. |
