Statement as of 6:23 PM EST on December 17, 2009 ... Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect until 9 am EST Friday... A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect until 9 am EST Friday. Northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph can be expected across the mountains of western Maine and over northern Coos County in New Hampshire. However... winds won't be quite as strong in some of the sheltered valleys... averaging 10 mph or less. Still these sheltered areas will see dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills. Winds of 10 to 20 mph will combine with temperatures falling to as cold as 10 below zero overnight that will result in wind chills of 20 to 30 below zero through early Friday morning. A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate wind chill temperatures that could result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors... make sure you dress warmly ... Including a hat and gloves. |
