Coastal Flood Statement
Statement as of 7:38 PM EST on November 14, 2009
The combination of onshore winds... increasing astronomical tides
and building seas may result in splashover around the time of
high tide tonight and again tomorrow morning.
High tide tonight occurs in Portland at 916 PM. The predicted
tide in Portland Harbor will be 9.5. A one foot storm surge will
bring the storm tide to around 10.5... still below the flood stage
of 12.0 feet. However... strong wave action... with nearshore waves
of 8 to 14 feet... whipped by onshore winds may result in splashover in
the more vulnerable northeast facing communities in southwest
Maine and on the seacoast of New Hampshire.
The high tide tomorrow morning occurs in Portland at 930 am.
Predicted tide height is 10.6 ft. Although winds will be
decreasing... they will still be onshore. Splashover in some of
the more vulnerable northeast facing locations in Cumberland and
York counties in Maine and Rockingham County in New Hampshire is
possible.
In addition... large breaking waves are expected along the coast
from Seabrook to Rockland and Camden.
