The National Weather Service in Gray Maine has extended the
* Flood Warning for...
Androscoggin County in southwest Maine...
southern Oxford County in western Maine...
York County in southwest Maine...
Sagadahoc County in south central Maine...
Cumberland County in southwest Maine...
* until noon EST
* at 639 am EST... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
that the heaviest rain has exited the warned area. However...
some rivers are still rising... while others are just cresting.
The runoff from the heavy rain last night is still entering small
rivers... creeks and streams... and additional flooding is possible.
Also... there is still quite a bit of standing water on roads
due to the heavy rainfall.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.
A Flood Warning means flooding is occurring or is imminent. Most
flood related deaths occur in automobiles. Do not attempt to cross
water covered bridges... dips... or low water crossings. Never try to
cross a flowing stream... even a small one... on foot. To escape rising
water move up to higher ground.
Please report high water to the National Weather Service by calling
toll free... 1-877-633-6772... when you can do so safely.
