... Coastal Flood Warning in effect until 11 PM EST Friday...
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a coastal Flood Warning... which is in effect until 11 PM EST Friday.
With high pressure to our north and low pressure to our south... a strong and persistent northeast flow is expected along the coasts of New Jersey and Delaware into the weekend. As a result... tidal departures will continue to increase. Widespread minor tidal flooding is expected for today... with spotty moderate flooding tonight and more widespread moderate flooding Friday.
The strong onshore flow will not allow water to drain from the Chesapeake Bay. Each oncoming tide cycle will see higher tide levels through Friday.
For Cambridge Maryland... high tide occurs at 1216 PM this afternoon with a forecast height around 3.5 feet MLLW. For tonight... high tide is at 1221 am with a forecast height around 4 feet MLLW. For Friday afternoon... the high tide is at 115 PM with a forecast height of around 4.5 feet MLLW.
Conditions are forecast to improve gradually over the weekend.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert for rising water and take appropriate action to protect life and property.
Do not park your vehicle in a location that is prone to tidal flooding. Also... avoid roadways that are prone to tidal flooding.
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area... producing rip currents and beach erosion.
