Areal Flood Watch, Coastal Flood Advisory, Coastal Flood Watch
Statement as of 8:30 AM EST on November 12, 2009
... Flood Watch in effect through late Friday night...
The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a
* Flood Watch for portions of Maryland and central Virginia...
including the following areas... in Maryland... Anne Arundel...
Calvert... Charles... Prince Georges and St. Marys. In central
Virginia... King George.
* Through late Friday night
* prolonged periods of light to moderate rain will continue
through Friday night and compound existing issues with flooded
creeks and roadways.
* Flooded roadways and creeks
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
420 am EST Thu Nov 12 2009
... Coastal Flood Advisory in effect until 6 am EST Friday...
... Coastal Flood Watch remains in effect from Friday morning
through late Friday night...
The National Weather Service in Baltimore MD/Washington has
issued a coastal Flood Advisory... which is in effect until 6 am
EST Friday. A coastal Flood Watch remains in effect from Friday
morning through late Friday night.
Water levels at Annapolis are a foot above astronomical normals
early Thursday morning. These departures will increase through the
end of the week in response to a tight pressure gradient between
low pressure off the Carolina coast and high pressure across the
northeastern United States. As a result... strong northeast winds will push
water into the Chesapeake Bay... and then toward the western shore.
During high tide today and tonight... water levels will be high
enough so that minor flooding can be expected at times of high
tide. Friday and Friday night... there is a better chance at minor
flooding... with moderate flooding possible.
If moderate flooding becomes more certain... a coastal Flood
Warning may be required.
Here are the times of the next high tides...
1:20 PM Thursday... 1:26 am and 2:19 PM Friday... and 2:14 am and
3:13 PM Saturday...
