Winter Storm Watch | |

Statement as of 5:23 AM EST on December 18, 2009 ... Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon... A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon. This watch is for Cape Cod and the islands. Low pressure will continue to develop across the southeast states today and move up the eastern Seaboard tonight and Saturday. There is still considerable uncertainty with the exact track of the low. However... there currently looks to be a moderate chance that at least 6 inches of snow could fall by Sunday afternoon. Snow is expected to begin late Saturday afternoon or during the evening... then taper off and end Sunday afternoon. Winds will become quite strong as well. We urge residents to keep an eye on the situation as changes in storm track could result in significant forecast changes. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Watch is issued for the potential of accumulating snow of 6 or more inches in a 12 hour period... or 8 or more inches in a 24 hour period. Anyone traveling in the next 24 to 36 hours should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to modify travel plans should winter weather develop. |
