Winter Storm Watch, Winter Weather Advisory
Statement as of 4:49 PM EST on March 03, 2015

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 am EST
Wednesday...
... Winter Storm Watch in effect from Wednesday evening through
Thursday evening...

The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a Winter Storm
Watch... which is in effect from Wednesday evening through
Thursday evening.

* Locations... south coastal Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

* Hazard types... snow... sleet and freezing rain.

* Accumulations... 1 to 3 inches of snow tonight along with a
trace of ice accumulation. Additional snow accumulation
expected Wednesday night and Thursday.

* Timing... snow this evening will change to sleet and freezing
rain from south to north during the overnight hours before
changing to rain early Wednesday morning.

* Impacts... untreated roads will be snow covered and slippery this
evening and may impact the tail end of the evening commute.
Sleet and freezing rain overnight may make for slippery
conditions and significant weight on area rooftops as a
transition to rain occurs.

* Winds... west 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

* Temperatures... rising into the lower 30s.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory is issued when snow and/or ice is
forecast to develop in the affected areas... but accumulations are
expected to be light. Any snow or ice would result in slippery
conditions on untreated roadways and sidewalks. When temperatures
are below freezing... motorists need to be especially careful on
bridges and overpasses where slippery spots can easily develop.

A Winter Storm Watch is issued for the potential of accumulating
snow of 6 or more inches in a 12 hour period... or 8 or more
inches in a 24 hour period. Anyone traveling in the next 24 to
36 hours should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to modify
travel plans should winter weather develop.
