Heavy rainfall and strong thunderstorms developed over southern Texas and northern Mexico on Friday, as onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico maintained warm and humid conditions. Rainfall totals reached over 2 inches by mid-day for the region. Uvalde, Texas saw a mid-day total of 2.06 inches of rain. Wind gusts up to 50 mph also accompanied this system.

To the north, showers and thunderstorms developed over the Plains as a broad low pressure system moved off the Rockies and into the Plains. This pushed a warm front eastward, which allowed for showers and thunderstorms to pop up from North Dakota through Kansas. These storms have not yet turned severe but there was a slight chance of severe thunderstorm development across northeastern Colorado and into western Kansas and Nebraska. Large hail and strong winds were likely in these areas, with possibly a tornado or two.

Meanwhile in the East, a trough of low pressure and associated cold front allowed for showers and thunderstorms to persist from the Mid-Atlantic states through Maine. Strong winds and heavy rainfall were reported from Pennsylvania through Maine. Out West, a trough of low pressure over the Pacific Northwest kicked up a few more scattered showers across Washington and Oregon, which moved into Idaho and western Montana.

Through 7 PM...widely scattered strong to severe thunderstorm northwest of Village Mills in southeast Texas will move northwest at 20 mph. Those between Woodville and Wildwood can expect continuous lightning, large hail, and gusts greater than 40 mph. Rainfall rates around an inch an hour are also possible. These storms will move west of Tyler County by 530 PM. Elsewhere, isolated showers and thunderstorms will develop and move northwest at 15 mph from Mauriceville and Sulphur to Forked Island.

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued a

* Flood Warning for The Bayou des cannes affecting...
extreme west central St. Landry Parish in central Louisiana...
northwestern Acadia Parish in southwest Louisiana...
south central Evangeline Parish in central Louisiana...

* until 230 am CDT Saturday

* at 231 am CDT... the latest stage on The Bayou des cannes near
Eunice was 18.0 feet. Flood stage is 16 feet. Water levels near 18
feet will result in moderate flooding of areas near the
river... mostly affecting secondary roads. The Bayou is near
crest... with water levels expected to remain near 18 feet through
this evening before beginning a slow fall.

* Moderate flooding near The Bayou is expected.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely.
