Preparations should be completed. Remain alert and stay
inside.
... Winds...
as Tropical Storm Ida continues to develop... the threat for
sustained high winds will increase soon. The latest area forecast
is for maximum winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 50 mph to
develop this evening and continue through early Tuesday morning.
Minor damage may occur in older Mobile home Parks. Newly planted
trees and shrubs may be uprooted if not secured properly. Weak
tree branches may snap. Residents should move unfastened
items... such as garbage cans and deck furniture... indoors.
... Storm surge and storm tide...
tide gauges in Lake Pontchartrain are already reporting tides 3
feet above normal. Storm surge flooding of 3 to 5 feet can be
expected outside of hurricane protection levees tonight through
Tuesday morning as Tropical Storm Ida moves through the coastal
waters of Louisiana and Mississippi. Some non elevated homes in
these areas may experience flooding. Minor to moderate tidal
flooding of property and perhaps some flooding of low lying roads
may occur during high tide.
