This line of thunderstorms was located from 6 miles southwest of Myrtle Grove to 16 miles northeast of Port Sulphur...or from 19 miles south of Belle Chasse to 16 miles northeast of Port Sulphur...moving east at 15 mph. This line of thunderstorms will be near Pointe a la Hache at 310 PM CDT... Port Sulphur at 315 PM CDT... These thunderstorms may bring rainfall rates of up to a half an inch per hour. Statement as of 3:39 AM CDT on July 05, 2009
... Heat advisory in effect until 8 PM CDT this evening...
The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a heat
advisory... which is in effect until 8 PM CDT this evening.
Hot conditions will continue for one more day before less
stressful weather is expected. Afternoon high temperatures will
again be in the middle and upper 90s across the area this
afternoon. These temperatures will combine with high humidity
levels to produce heat index readings ranging from 105 to 110
degrees this afternoon. A front will move into the area on Monday.
This will allow the development of thunderstorms... and bring
somewhat cooler temperatures to the area with highs only expected
around 90 on Monday.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids... stay in an air-conditioned
room... stay out of the sun... and check up on relatives and
neighbors.
