Nowcast | as of 8:12 am CDT on May 30, 2015

At 8 am...Shreveport National Weather Service Doppler showed widely scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms along and north of I-20 on an old outflow boundary. Activity is still quite sparse across north la at this time. However...a large multicellar thunderstorm complex is on approach into northeast Texas from Emory...to Canton...to Athens and near Palestine. This large system will be affecting much if not all of the arklatex along the I- 20 corridor over the next several hours. Movement of all of this activity is to the east at 25 mph. Over the next couple of hours... rainfall amounts will be a tenth...to quarter of an inch with much higher amounts posing a flash flood potential from torrential downpours. Winds may gust to 30 or 40 mph with the strongest thunderstorms. Stay close to NOAA Weather Radio...commericial radio and TV...and or your personal cell for possible flash flood warnings.

Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 5:01 AM CDT on May 30, 2015

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through this 7 PM CDT this evening...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of southwest Arkansas... northwest Louisiana...
southeast Oklahoma and northeast Texas... including the
following areas... in southwest Arkansas... Hempstead... Howard...
Lafayette... Little River... Miller... Nevada and Sevier. In
northwest Louisiana... Bossier and Caddo. In southeast
Oklahoma... McCurtain. In northeast Texas... Bowie... Camp...
Cass... Cherokee... Franklin... Gregg... Harrison... Marion...
Morris... Panola... Red River... Rusk... Smith... Titus... Upshur
and wood.

* Through 7 PM CDT this evening

* showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop and spread
over the area today with the passage of an upper level trough of
low pressure and along and near a cold front that will be slow
to move south and east across the area. Locally heavy rainfall
amounts of one to three inches are expected... with isolated
higher amounts to near four inches. The soil remains saturated
and this new rainfall will quickly runoff into our already
swollen local and area wide drainage systems.

* Low lying and poor drainage areas... especially in the vicinity
of rapidly rising bayous... creeks and streams... will be most
prone to flash flooding during heavy rainfall.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
