Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, February 14, 2012. Valentine's Day will be greeted by a storm that will begin the day in the Mississippi Valley before moving eastward into the eastern third of the country. In the colder air to the north, snow is expected to fall through the Ohio Valley before moving into the Northeast in the evening. The warmer air to the north will only allow areas of light to moderate rain to form from Louisiana through the Carolinas. By the end of the day, much of the precipitation from this storm will be off the eastern seaboard, leaving warmer air in the Southern Plains and much colder air in the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest.

In the West, a storm will track through the Great Basin before slamming into the Rockies, where it will produce much needed high elevation snow. This will not be a tremendous snow producer, but several inches of the white stuff is expected.

Late in the day, a Pacific storm will make its approach to the West Coast. As the storm moves inland, it will instigate rain and high elevation snow in Washington and Oregon. This storm will be the next rain producer for California on Wednesday.

The Northeast will rise in to the 30s and 40s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. The Northern Plains will rise into the 30s and 40s, while the Northwest will see temperatures in the 30s and 40s.

This line of showers was located from 22 miles northwest of Saucier to 18 miles west of Galliano...or from 6 miles east of Poplarville to 17 miles southeast of Houma...moving east at 35 mph. This line of showers will be near Lake Catherine at 115 am CST... Violet at 120 am CST... Galliano at 125 am CST... Golden Meadow at 130 am CST... Waveland at 135 am CST... These showers may bring wind gusts near 35 mph and rainfall rates of up to a quarter of an inch per hour for a short duration. ... Strong thunderstorm moving east affecting lower Lafourche
Parish... lower Jefferson Parish... lower Terrebonne Parish...

At 1243 am CST... National Weather Service meteorologists detected a
strong thunderstorm 17 miles south of Houma... or about 2 miles south
of Dulac... moving east at 40 mph.

The strong thunderstorm will be near...
6 miles south of Chauvin by 1255 am...
Galliano by 120 am...
Golden Meadow by 125 am...

The primary threat from this storm is wind gusts 40 to 50 mph... which
could down tree limbs and blow around unsecured small objects. Seek
shelter in a safe home or building until this storm has passed.

Radar is detecting rotation aloft with this storm. A funnel cloud
and possibly a waterspout or tornado may form if this rotation
persists during the next few minutes.
