This is a potentially dangerous and rapidly developing situation.
Err on the side of caution and complete preparations for tropical
storm conditions.
If you plan on using a portable generator... be sure to observe all
safety precautions to avoid Carbon monoxide
poisoning... electrocution... or fire. Be sure to operate your
generator in a dry and well ventilated area. Carbon monoxide
poisoning deaths can occur due to improperly ventilated portable
generators!
... Winds...
as Tropical Storm Ida continues to develop... the threat for
sustained high winds will increase soon. The latest area forecast
is for maximum winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph to
develop this evening and continue through early Tuesday morning.
Minor damage may occur in older Mobile home Parks. Newly planted
trees and shrubs may be uprooted if not secured properly. Weak
tree branches may snap. Residents should move unfastened
items... such as garbage cans and deck furniture... indoors.
... Storm surge and storm tide...
storm surge flooding of 3 to 5 feet can be expected outside of
hurricane protection levees from this afternoon through Tuesday
morning as Tropical Storm Ida moves through the coastal waters of
Louisiana and Mississippi. Some non elevated homes in these areas
may experience flooding. Minor to moderate tidal flooding of
property and perhaps some flooding of low lying roads may occur
during high tide.
