Friday...

The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a lake Wind
Advisory... which is in effect from 7 PM Thursday to 4 PM EST
Friday.

* Breezy winds are expected from Thursday evening through Christmas
afternoon.

* Gusts up to 40 mph will be possible from Thursday night through
Christmas afternoon.

* These winds will pose a threat to boaters on area lakes.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A lake Wind Advisory indicates that winds will cause rough chop
on area lakes. Small boats will be especially prone to capsizing.

... Windy... wet and colder weather on the way...

A large low pressure system developing over the Midwest during the
Christmas Holiday will bring an active period of weather to east
Kentucky. Initially winds will pick up from the southeast on
Thursday and become gusty later that night. At the same time... a
potent cold front will sweep through the area with between a half and
one inch of rain falling from Thursday night through Christmas
morning. While much of the snow has been melting over the past few
days... the remaining snow pack will likely wash away with the rain.
When combined with the new rainfall this will contribute to a small
risk for localized flooding. The winds will be the strongest
accompanying the cold front Thursday night and in particular over the
highest terrain near the virgina border where gusts to 50 mph will be
possible. Winds of these speeds can pose a threat to high profile
vehicles and weak or shallowly rooted trees. Elsewhere... the winds will
continue to be breezy from the south to southwest into Christmas day
with gusts to 40 mph possible. These winds will pose a threat
primarily to area boaters. Finally... the passage of the weather
system/S cold front on Christmas day will send colder air into east
Kentucky with periodic light snows a possibility into the start of
next week.
