... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST this
evening...

* locations... Lawrence County Kentucky and portions of western
and northern West Virginia

* hazard types... snow.

* Total snow accumulations... 10 to 14 inches for northeast
Kentucky and the tri state area. 4 to 8 inches in the Kanawha
valley and southeast West Virginia... including the Charleston
and Beckley area. 8 to 10 inches in the northern West Virginia
lowlands and the northern West Virginia mountains.

* Timing... snow will taper off from west to east this afternoon.

* Impacts... untreated roads and sidewalks could become snow and
ice covered. Reduced visibilities... below one mile at times...
can be expected. Snow could cause downed tree limbs and power
outages.

* Temperatures... mainly lower to mid 20s.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow
are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an
emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food...

... Flood Warning extended until Friday evening for
the Tug Fork River at Kermit.
* At 1:00 PM Thursday the stage was estimated at 44.5 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 38.0 feet.
* Forecast... the river will continue to rise to near 48.5 feet by after midnight
the river will fall below flood stage by Friday afternoon .
* At stages near 49.0 feet... grade school at north end of town and west of
Railroad affected.

flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It takes only a few inches of
swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.
