Areal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 5:37 PM CDT on July 03, 2015

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
northern Christian County in south central Kentucky...
northern Todd County in south central Kentucky...

* until 1130 PM CDT Friday

* at 517 PM CDT... a trained weather spotter reported heavy rain in
near Crofton that was causing six inches of water to flow over
Highway 800 near Crofton and bear Highway 107 southeast of
Crofton.

This will cause Urban and Small Stream flooding over parts of
northern Christian and northern Todd County this evening. These
areas have already seen radar estimated rainfall amounts of six to
eight inches since the first of July.

Up to three inches of rain have already fallen over northern
Christian County since 230 PM CDT.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Hopkinsville... Crofton... Hawkins... Clifty and Allegre.

Additional rainfall of two to locally three inches is expected over
the area through 8 PM tonight. This additional rain will make minor
flooding likely across the advisory area

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause ponding of water in
urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses as well as other
poor drainage areas and low lying spots. Do not attempt to travel
across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... as well as farm and country roads. Do not
attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

To report flooding... have the nearest law enforcement agency relay
your report to the National Weather Service forecast office.
