...Freeze warning remains in effect until 10 am EDT this morning... ...Freeze warning in effect from midnight tonight to 9 am EDT Thursday...

The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a freeze warning...which is in effect from midnight tonight to 9 am EDT Thursday. A freeze warning also remains in effect until 10 am EDT this morning.

* Below freezing temperatures will persist through the early morning hours today. Temperatures will fall well below freezing again late tonight into early Thursday morning in valleys locations. Aside from the tallest ridges...most locations can expect widespread frost late tonight into early Thursday morning.

* Temperatures this morning will bottom out in the lower to mid 20s for most locations. Low temperatures on Wednesday morning will range from 22 to 27 in most valleys...but as mild as mid 30s on the tallest ridges.

* The cold temperatures will put vegetation at a significant risk of freezing. With a sustained freeze of this magnitude... even normally Hardy plants will be at risk of being damaged or killed.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

A record low temperature of 30 degrees was set at Jackson KY yesterday. This breaks the old record of 34 set in 2008.

Weather records date back to 1981 at the Jackson weather office.
