Statement as of 3:02 AM CST on December 13, 2013
... Wintry mix expected across portions of north-central and east-
central Kentucky tonight and early Saturday morning...
An area of low pressure is expected to move into the region tonight
and will bring a mixed bag of wintry conditions to portions of
northern Kentucky tonight and early Saturday morning.
The latest forecasts indicate that precipitation will start off as
snow... possibly mixed with rain and sleet late this evening and
then switch over to mainly snow for a time during the overnight
hours early Saturday morning. Warmer air is expected to move into
the region before sunrise on Saturday resulting in the snow
changing over to a cold rain.
Before the change over to rain occurs... a slushy accumulation of
snow is possible in areas along and north of the western Kentucky
and Bluegrass parkways in Kentucky. This snow may result in slick
spots developing on area roadways late tonight and early Saturday.
There is still come uncertainty with regards to the evolution and
track of this storm system. If later forecasts suggest slightly
colder surface temperatures... then more snow accumulation than
currently forecast could occur. If you have travel plans for late
tonight and Saturday morning... stay abreast of the latest forecasts
and allow yourself extra time to reach your destination.
Stay tuned to NOAA all hazards weather radio and your local media
for the latest updates on this winter weather situation.
