Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 13, 2012.

The trough of low pressure that brought unsettled weather to the West on Sunday will advance into the Plains on Monday with more mixed precipitation. The trough will support a low and associated warm front moving eastward into the Southern Plains. As the system progresses, rain showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will spread from parts of central/eastern Texas into western Louisiana, mixed precipitation will develop in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, and snow will blanket parts of the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley, and parts of the western Ohio Valley. Areas from eastern Texas through Arkansas should expect the heaviest precipitation totals. Heightened winter weather conditions will allow Winter Weather Advisories and a few Winter Storm Warnings to remain in effect through the day. Elsewhere east of the Continental Divide, lake-effect snow showers will continue along parts of the Lower Great Lakes Snowbelt.

In the West, a Pacific cold front pushing across the Pacific Northwest will drop southward across northern California, bringing coastal and valley rain and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevadas.

Winter Weather Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 2:37 AM CST on February 13, 2012

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight CST
tonight...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow remains in effect until
midnight CST tonight.

* Short term trends... light snow has moved east into far southwest
Missouri and southeast Kansas. Observations from automated
stations show light snow has begun in Grove Oklahoma and as far
east as Chanute and Parsons in southeast Kansas. Areas from Fort
Scott south to Joplin... Neosho... and Anderson will see snow
develop from 230 am through 4 am.

* Timing and areas affected... snow will continue to spread east
into the region early this morning reaching the Highway 65
corridor by daybreak. While most areas west of Highway 65 will
only have a light accumulation by the morning rush hour... the
snow is expected to accumulate quickly on Road surfaces with a
cold ground in place. Light to occasionally moderate snow will
spread slowly east to the Highway 5 corridor by late
morning... then into the rest of the Eastern Ozarks early this
afternoon.

* Snow accumulation... light snow with periods of moderate snow
will gradually accumulate through this evening. A storm total
snow accumulation of one to three inches with locally heavier
amounts is expected.

* Ice accumulations... freezing drizzle is expected to develop in
some areas late today and this evening. An ice accumulation of
one tenth of an inch or less will be possible for areas along
and south of the Highway 60 Corridor. North of the Highway 60
corridor... an ice accumulation of a few hundredths of an inch
will be possible.

* Impacts... Road surfaces will become slick and hazardous today.
Areas along and west of the Highway 65 corridor will likely
experience slick roadways during the Monday morning commute.
Even though the wintry precipitation will end tonight... slick
roads will likely persist into Tuesday morning.

See the latest Missouri and Kansas Department of Transportation
web sites (modot.Org and ksdot.Org) for the latest Road
conditions and traffic alerts. Drive slowly and carefully. Be
prepared for completely snow covered roads... or at the very least
slick areas... especially on bridges and overpasses.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow
will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow
covered roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.
