... Winter Storm Warning in effect until 6 am CST Tuesday...
The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow... which is in effect until 6 am CST Tuesday. This is an upgrade from the Winter Weather Advisory.
Moderate to heavy snow will increase in coverage from northwest to southeast this morning as temperatures cool to near the freezing mark. Six to eight inches of snow is likely across the warned area by the time the storm system winds down early Tuesday. Snowfall rates of one to two inches per hour will couple with 10 to 20 mph winds to reduce visibilities and create hazardous travel conditions.
A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
