Winter Storm Warning | |

Statement as of 5:48 PM CDT on March 20, 2010 ... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 PM CDT Sunday... A Winter Storm Warning snow and sleet remains in effect until 7 PM CDT Sunday. * Short term trends... light to moderate snow will persist across extreme southeast Kansas and portions of far western Missouri. * Timing and areas affected... light to moderate snow will persist through the evening and overnight hours for areas of extreme southeast Kansas and far western Missouri... or areas along the Highway 71 corridor. * Snow and sleet accumulations... snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are expected by the time the storm ends late Sunday. The heaviest snow will fall tonight. Sleet accumulations are expected to be minor. Snow may transition to a wintry mix late tonight and Sunday which will impact accumulations. * Winds and visibility... northerly winds will increase to 15 to 30 mph which could result in poor visibility due to blowing snow. * Impacts... travel conditions will deteriorate tonight. This winter storm will impact the Highway 54... 69 and 71 corridors... as well as portions of Interstate 44. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow and sleet are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you. This kit should include such items as tire chains... booster cables... a flashlight... shovel... blankets... extra clothing and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded. |

Statement as of 5:16 AM CDT on March 20, 2010 ... Flood Watch remains in effect through Monday morning... The Flood Watch continues for * portions of southeast Kansas and Missouri... including the following areas... in southeast Kansas... Bourbon... Cherokee and Crawford. In Missouri... Barry... Barton... Benton... Camden... Cedar... Christian... Dade... Dallas... Dent... Douglas... Greene... Hickory... Howell... Jasper... Laclede... Lawrence... Maries... McDonald... Miller... Morgan... Newton... Oregon... Ozark... Phelps... Polk... Pulaski... Shannon... St. Clair... stone... Taney... Texas... Vernon... Webster and Wright. * Through Monday morning * heavy rainfall amounts of one to three inches are expected this weekend as a storm system tracks across the region. Rainfall amounts will be lower across southeast Kansas and far southwest Missouri where significant snow accumulations are expected. * This heavy rainfall could cause flooding of small streams and low water crossings... as well as main Stem rivers. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop. |
