A Winter Storm Warning snow and sleet remains in effect until 7 PM
CDT Sunday.
* Short term trends... light to moderate snow will persist across
extreme southeast Kansas and portions of far western Missouri.
* Timing and areas affected... light to moderate snow will persist
through the evening and overnight hours for areas of extreme
southeast Kansas and far western Missouri... or areas along the
Highway 71 corridor.
* Snow and sleet accumulations... snow accumulations of 4 to 8
inches are expected by the time the storm ends late Sunday. The
heaviest snow will fall tonight. Sleet accumulations are
expected to be minor. Snow may transition to a wintry mix late
tonight and Sunday which will impact accumulations.
* Winds and visibility... northerly winds will increase to 15 to 30 mph
which could result in poor visibility due to blowing snow.
* Impacts... travel conditions will deteriorate tonight. This
winter storm will impact the Highway 54... 69 and 71 corridors...
as well as portions of Interstate 44.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow and sleet are
expected or occurring. Strong winds are also possible. This will
make travel very hazardous or impossible. Consider taking a winter
storm kit along with you. This kit should include such items as
tire chains... booster cables... a
flashlight... shovel... blankets... extra clothing and anything else
that would help you survive in case you become stranded.
