Statement as of 4:06 AM CST on December 24, 2009 ... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST Friday... A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST Friday. * Timing... light to moderate snow should begin to develop over the area around mid morning. The snow will persist into tonight. * Winds/visibility... strong northwest winds at 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 50 mph will develop over the area today. These high wind speeds in combination with the snow may cause very low visibilities at times across the warned area. * Snow accumulations... total snow accumulations will range from 1 to 4 inches across central... south central and east central Kansas... highest generally east of a line extending from Wellington to Wichita to Hillsboro. * Other impacts... the high wind speeds in combination with the snow may cause drifting and severe reductions in the visibility and make traveling very dangerous. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning means significant winter weather is expected or occurring. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
