Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 13, 2012.

The trough of low pressure that brought unsettled weather to the West on Sunday will advance into the Plains on Monday with more mixed precipitation. The trough will support a low and associated warm front moving eastward into the Southern Plains. As the system progresses, rain showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will spread from parts of central/eastern Texas into western Louisiana, mixed precipitation will develop in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, and snow will blanket parts of the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley, and parts of the western Ohio Valley. Areas from eastern Texas through Arkansas should expect the heaviest precipitation totals. Heightened winter weather conditions will allow Winter Weather Advisories and a few Winter Storm Warnings to remain in effect through the day. Elsewhere east of the Continental Divide, lake-effect snow showers will continue along parts of the Lower Great Lakes Snowbelt.

In the West, a Pacific cold front pushing across the Pacific Northwest will drop southward across northern California, bringing coastal and valley rain and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevadas.

Winter Weather Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 12:54 PM CST on February 13, 2012

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST this
evening...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow and freezing drizzle remains in
effect until 6 PM CST this evening.

* Location... west central and northwest Missouri as well as
adjacent areas of Kansas... including the greater Kansas City
metropolitan area.

* Timing... patchy light snow will move east of the advisory area
early this afternoon... with patchy drizzle or freezing drizzle
expected this afternoon into this evening.

* Snow amounts as of 12 PM... morning snowfall totals averaged around
one to two inches from Kansas City to St. Joseph to the Iowa
border... with locally higher amounts up to around three inches over
the northern Kansas City Metro area. A light glazing of ice is
possible this afternoon and evening with the patchy freezing
drizzle... but is not expected to be significant.

* Impacts... roadways will remain slick from the slushy conditions
with the morning snowfall and the patchy light freezing drizzle.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow and freezing
drizzle will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for
snow and ice covered roads and limited visibilities... and use
caution while driving.
