... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST Friday...
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST Friday.
* Timing... light to moderate snow will continue to fall across the area tonight before tapering off to flurries and ending after midnight. Locally heavy snowfall is expected across the Flint Hills.
* Snow accumulations... will range from 1 to 3 inches along the I- 135 corridor from Salina to Wichita. Heavier snowfall totals of 4 to 8 inches can be expected further east across the Flint Hills... with locally higher amounts possible.
* Winds/visibility... strong north to northwest winds at 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 50 mph will continue through midnight... slackening some after midnight. These high wind speeds in combination with the snowfall will result in very low visibilities across the warned area... with near blizzard conditions expected across the Flint Hills.
* Other impacts... the strong winds in combination with the snow will cause drifting and severe reductions in the visibility making travel extremely difficult. This will be especially likely across the Flint Hills tonight... where roads could become impassable making travel nearly impossible.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Storm Warning means significant winter weather is expected or occurring. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
