Tuesday to 5 am MST /6 am CST/ Friday...
The National Weather Service in Goodland has issued a Winter
Storm Warning for heavy snow and blowing snow... which is in effect
from 11 PM MST /midnight CST/ Tuesday to 5 am MST /6 am CST/
Friday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.
* Timing/duration... precipitation will begin across the tri-state
region late Tuesday evening. Locations along and east of a line
from Benkelman Nebraska to Gove Kansas may see a brief period of
light freezing drizzle Tuesday evening before precipitation
changes to snow over the entire area by early Wednesday morning.
Snowfall will continue periodically through late Thursday.
* Snow/ice accumulations... while only trace amounts of freezing
drizzle are anticipated over the aforementioned area late
Tuesday... elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses may
become slick and hazardous. Once the snow begins... locations
along and north of Interstate 70 can expect to receive between 8
and 10 inches with 6 to 8 inches of snow possible south of the
Interstate. The heaviest snowfall accumulations should occur
Wednesday.
* Winds/visibility... winds will become northerly and increase
during the day on Wednesday. By late Wednesday... sustained winds
of 25 to 35 mph with gusts as high as 45 mph will be possible.
Near-blizzard conditions will be possible late Wednesday night
through much of the day Thursday as visibilities drop to near
one-quarter mile at times. An upgrade to a Blizzard Warning may
become necessary over portions of the region by late Wednesday.
* Other impacts... if you plan to travel this Holiday week... you
should travel Monday and Tuesday. Weather will become increasingly
hazardous... if not impossible at times... beginning late Tuesday
and continuing through Christmas morning.
