Statement as of 1:02 PM CST on November 15, 2009 The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... Barton County in southwest Missouri... Cedar County in southwest Missouri... Cherokee County in southeast Kansas... eastern Crawford County in southeast Kansas... northern Jasper County in southwest Missouri... St. Clair County in west central Missouri... Vernon County in west central Missouri... * until 400 PM CST. * At 100 PM CST... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated an area of very heavy rainfall across the warned area. Estimated rainfall amounts from 1 to 2.5 inches had fallen across portions of the warned area. * Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to occur. Creeks... streams and low water crossings will be especially susceptible to the dangers of flash flooding. This warning includes but is not limited to the following low water crossings... Highway 7 at little Cherry Creek north of Columbus... Route k at Dry Wood creek east of Arcadia... Highway 126 at the Spring River 3 miles north of Jasper. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property. Do not attempt to cross swiftly flowing waters or waters of unknown depth by foot or by automobile. Lat... Statement as of 12:46 PM CST on November 15, 2009 ... Flood Watch in effect through Monday morning... The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a * Flood Watch for portions of southeast Kansas and Missouri... including the following areas... in southeast Kansas... Bourbon... Cherokee and Crawford. In Missouri... Barry... Barton... Benton... Camden... Cedar... Christian... Dade... Dallas... Dent... Douglas... Greene... Hickory... Jasper... Laclede... Lawrence... Maries... McDonald... Miller... Morgan... Newton... Ozark... Phelps... Polk... Pulaski... St. Clair... stone... Taney... Texas... Vernon... Webster and Wright. * Through Monday morning * a prolonged period of moderate and locally heavy rainfall is occurring over parts of western and central Missouri and southeast Kansas this morning into the early afternoon. Widespread rainfall in excess of an inch has occurred northwest of a line from Columbus Kansas to Bolivar to Tuscumbia. This rainfall will gradually spread south and east this afternoon and tonight. Another one to two and a half inches of rainfall will be possible. * Many low water crossings will be impacted by heavy rain through midday Monday. Smaller creeks and streams may also experience flooding. Large rivers in the Osage river basin may also experience flooding over the next couple of days. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop. |
