Wednesday evening...

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of south central Kansas and
southeast Kansas... including the following areas... in south
central Kansas... Butler... Cowley... Harper... Sedgwick and
Sumner. In southeast Kansas... Allen... Chautauqua... Elk...
Greenwood... Labette... Montgomery... Neosho... Wilson and
Woodson.

* From this evening through Wednesday evening.

* Heavy rain will develop across the area late this afternoon and
evening... continuing periodically through at least Wednesday.
Rainfall amounts between two and five inches are expected with
locally higher amounts possible.

* Rivers and streams may rise with flash flooding a possibility.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Remember to turn around... don't drown.

northwestern Butler County in south central Kansas...

* until 445 PM CDT

* at 410 PM CDT... National Weather Service meteorologists were
tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near
Elbing to near Andale... and moving east at 35 mph.

Wind gusts up to 55 mph will be possible with these storms.

* Locations impacted include...
Wichita... Andover... Park city... Valley Center... Bel Aire... Maize...
Sedgwick... Colwich... Benton... Whitewater... downtown Wichita...
Kechi... Andale... Eastborough... Bentley... Potwin... Elbing...
northeast Wichita... east Wichita and jabara Airport.

Be prepared to take shelter in the event the storms intensify and
