Areal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 4:55 AM CDT on July 29, 2015

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
Shawnee County in east central Kansas...
Wabaunsee County in east central Kansas...

* until 745 am CDT

* at 447 am CDT... Doppler radar has estimated 1 to 2.5 inches of
rainfall have fallen across Shawnee and central Wabaunsee counties
since 330 am. A line of thunderstorms with heavy rainfall will
continue to move across the advisory area through 6 am. Most areas
will receive another 1 inch of rainfall. This will cause Urban and
Small Stream flooding in the advisory area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Topeka... Rossville... Alma... Eskridge... Dover... Auburn...
Alta Vista... McFarland and Paxico.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 70 between mile markers 332 and 355.
Kansas Turnpike between mile markers 166 and 187.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.
