Statement as of 6:01 am CST on November 16, 2009 ... On this date in weather history... In 1959... the worst Arctic invasion ever to strike the United States in November occurred. A weather station 14 miles northeast of Lincoln... Mt reported a temperature of 53 degrees below zero to set an all-time record low for the United States in the month of November. Their high temperature that day was 1 degree above zero. In 1989... a blizzard ravaged the northern and Central Plains as far south as Nebraska... as 40 mph winds produced wind chills as low as 25 below zero.
