In 1981... 4 days of heavy rain in northern Texas and southern Oklahoma came to an end. The heaviest rain fell in a band from southwest of Abilene Texas to McAlester Oklahoma... with up to 26 inches reported north of Gainesville... in north central Texas. The heavy rainfall was from the decaying Hurricane Norma... which also spawned 13 tornadoes across the region. The flooding that resulted was blamed for 7 fatalities.
