... On this date in weather history...
In 1989... severe thunderstorms raked parts of the
northern plains and upper Mississippi Valley with Golf
Ball to baseball-sized hail and 60 to 80 mph winds.
Baseball-sized hail bombarded counties neighboring the
Twin Cities to the southeast while numerous reports of
Golf Ball sized hail struck western and central
Wisconsin. Total damage estimates are unknown... although
around $1 million damage was reported in extreme
west-central Wisconsin about 40 miles northeast of
Rochester.
