...Record high temperatures set across the region today...

A record high temperature of 73 degrees was set at Wichita today. This breaks the old record of 69 set in 2013.

A record high temperature of 75 degrees was set at Salina today. This breaks the old record of 68 set in 1934.

A record high temperature of 83 degrees was set at Russell today. This breaks the old record of 65 set in 2002. This is only one of two days where the temperature has climbed above 80 at Russell in the month of January. It was one degree short of the warmest January temperature ever recorded at Russell...which was 84 set in 1989.

...On this date in weather history...

In 1987...a winter storm moving from the central rockies to the northern plains...produced up to one foot of snow in the Colorado rockies. Boulder measured a gust at exactly 99 mph. The high winds caused $5.6 million damage in Colorado. In 1963...the low temperature at Cynthiana Kentucky fell to 34 below zero. This equaled the state record established just 4 days earlier in Bonnieville.


In 1922 Washington D.C. Recorded its greatest snowfall when 21 inches immobilized the nation's capital. The weight of the snow caused a movie theater roof to collapse...killing 100 people.Since the theater was named the Knickerbocker...this winter event became known as the Knickerbocker storm.
