In 1989...residents of Northway Alaska were under enormous pressure...as the barometer reached 31.85 inches of Mercury. This set the all time greatest barometric pressure ever recorded on the North American continent. At the time...the temperature was a frost biting 46 below zero. The colossal Arctic invasion then overwhelmed the north central United States. Great Falls Montana experienced truly Great Falls in temperature...going from 62 degrees to 23 below zero...an 85 degree plunge...in just 36 hours.Old man winter showed no heart at all for Valentine Nebraska...where the Mercury fell from 70 to zero in just 9 hours! In 1949...Helena Montana plunged to 42 degrees below zero.
