Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday, May 26, 2012.

The main weather feature over the nation will be a low pressure system moving off the Rockies and into the Plains on Saturday. Flow around this system continues pushing a warm front eastward, over the Plains and through the Midwest. Expect widespread showers and thunderstorms to develop along this frontal boundary, from the Northern and Central Plains through the Great Lakes. Some of these storms will turn severe with strong winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall. Severe thunderstorms are most likely over Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. By Saturday evening, the tail end of this system will reach the Northeast, bringing lighter and more widespread showers and thunderstorms to the region.

The back side of this broad low pressure system will continue pulling cool air in from Canada. This will allow for rain showers to turn to snow showers at the highest elevations of the Northern Rockies, Intermountain West, and Central Rockies. At the same time, strong and gusty winds will persist for the southern side of this system. In combination with warm and dry conditions, this will maintain high fire danger for the Southwest and Southern Rockies.

In the Southeast, expect more shower and thunderstorm activity over Florida and the Carolinas as an area of low pressure lingers just offshore. Some areas may see severe thunderstorm development with gusty winds and heavy rainfall.

Heat Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 9:23 PM EDT on May 25, 2012

... Heat advisory remains in effect from noon Saturday to 8 PM EDT
Sunday...

A heat advisory remains in effect from noon Saturday to 8 PM EDT
Sunday.

* Temperature: heat index values in the middle 90s for
Saturday... and even warmer heat indices in the upper 90s to
around 100 degrees for Sunday. Overnight heat indices will
also be quite warm in the mid to upper 70s.

* Impacts: those planning to spend time outdoors this weekend
should take extra care to avoid sunburn and dehydration.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear
light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink
plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work... the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency... call 9 1 1.

Special Weather Statement
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 2:26 PM EDT on May 25, 2012

... An ozone action day has been declared...

the officials at the Indiana department of environmental
management have called for an ozone action day on Saturday... may
26th and Sunday... may 27th for the following Indiana counties...

Hamilton... Hancock... Shelby... Johnson... Morgan... Greene... Monroe...
Owen... Hendricks... Boone... Vigo... Jackson... Bartholomew and Knox.

An ozone action day means that a combination of the high
temperatures... light winds... and other factors... are expected to
produce conditions where high levels of ozone emissions... may
exceed federally mandated standards.

Here are some recommended actions that the public can take to reduce
ozone forming emissions.

Ride the bus instead of taking your car.
Car-pool with a friend or co-worker.
Reduce the amount of time spent in drive thru lanes.
Postpone filling or topping off your Gas Tank until after dark.
Put off mowing your lawn until after 600 PM.
