Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 13, 2012.

The trough of low pressure that brought unsettled weather to the West on Sunday will advance into the Plains on Monday with more mixed precipitation. The trough will support a low and associated warm front moving eastward into the Southern Plains. As the system progresses, rain showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will spread from parts of central/eastern Texas into western Louisiana, mixed precipitation will develop in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, and snow will blanket parts of the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley, and parts of the western Ohio Valley. Areas from eastern Texas through Arkansas should expect the heaviest precipitation totals. Heightened winter weather conditions will allow Winter Weather Advisories and a few Winter Storm Warnings to remain in effect through the day. Elsewhere east of the Continental Divide, lake-effect snow showers will continue along parts of the Lower Great Lakes Snowbelt.

In the West, a Pacific cold front pushing across the Pacific Northwest will drop southward across northern California, bringing coastal and valley rain and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevadas.

Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 7:07 PM CST on February 12, 2012

... Wintry weather likely Monday night and early Tuesday...

An upper level weather system is forecast to move northeastward
into the lower Ohio Valley Monday night and Tuesday morning. As
this system heads into our region... widespread precipitation is
expected to develop.

With cold air already in place... the initial precipitation will
fall in the form of light snow... sometime around sunset Monday
evening. By late Monday night and early Tuesday morning... warmer
air aloft is forecast to move into portions of southern Kentucky.
This warm air likely will cause the snow to change over to a
wintry mix of rain... sleet... and possibly some freezing rain. At
this time... the best chances for a wintry mix appear to be south
of a line from Beaver Dam Kentucky to near Berea Kentucky. North
of that line... colder air likely will remain in place for light
snow to be the predominant precipitation type.

Surface temperatures are expected to remain near the freezing mark
Monday night and Tuesday morning... so some light accumulations of
snow will be possible... mainly across southern Indiana and
northern Kentucky. At this time... an inch or less of snowfall is
expected across that area.

The wintry precipitation likely will lead to some travel problems
Monday night and Tuesday morning. Surface temperatures... antecedent
Road conditions... and precipitation intensity will all play a role
in how negatively impacted things become.

Stay tuned to NOAA all hazards weather radio and your local media
for the latest updates on this winter weather situation.
