Weather Summary
Weather Underground midday recap for Monday, February 13, 2012. A storm raced out of the Rockies and into the Plains on Monday, producing a good shot of Winter weather in the Plains and Mississippi Valley. Winter Weather Advisories were posted from eastern Oklahoma through the western Tennessee Valley in anticipation of several inches of new snow. Snow fell as far north as Minnesota and Michigan, but lighter snow was reported the farther north you went. In the warmer air closer to the Gulf Coast, rain fell in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Wet weather also greeted the West Coast as a Pacific storm slammed into California. This storm lacked a tremendous amount of moisture, but it has been a very dry Winter for the state thus far, and any precipitation is very much welcomed. Up to a foot of new snow is possible from this storm in the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevadas when all is said and done.

The East Coast was dry as a high pressure continued to dominate, but the region experienced another chilly day. By the afternoon, temperatures were still in the 20s and 30s for many areas in New England, while temperatures in the 30s were experience as far south as Arkansas. Morning temperatures were in the 20s in northern Florida.

The Northern Plains rose into the 20s and 30s, while the Northwest saw temperatures in the 30s and 40s. The Southwest rose into the 40s, 50s, and some 60s.

Winter Weather Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 2:41 PM CST on February 13, 2012

... Winter Weather Advisory now in effect from 7 PM EST /6 PM CST/
this evening to 9 am EST /8 am CST/ Tuesday...

The Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect from 7 PM EST /6 PM
CST/ this evening to 9 am EST /8 am CST/ Tuesday.

* Timing: light snow will overspread the region after sunset
tonight... mostly affecting locations across south-central
Indiana and west-central Kentucky. The best timing for the most
significant snow looks to be roughly from midnight to dawn.

* Main impact: light to sometimes moderate snow will fall late
tonight with some snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches possible.
The best chance for this will occur west of I-65 across south-central
Indiana and in the Kentucky counties near the Ohio River.

* Other impacts: some sleet will mix in with the snow. Any
snow... or snow/sleet mix... may create hazardous driving
conditions.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow or sleet
may cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slick spots on
roadways and use caution while driving late tonight into early
Tuesday morning.
