Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 5:02 AM EST on December 23, 2009
... A significant storm to impact the Midwest this week...
A strong storm system will move through the Midwest this week... impacting travel in many areas west and north of Indiana.
For portions of central Indiana... light freezing rain will be possible northeast of a Delphi to Rushville line... including northeastern portions of the Indianapolis metropolitan area... today through early Thursday morning. Light ice accumulations may occur. This could cause slick roadways and possibly isolated power outages. Remember... even light accumulations of ice can make traveling difficult.
Locations west of interstates 65 and 74 will likely see just rain.
By Thursday afternoon... freezing rain will change to rain as temperatures rise above freezing.
Colder air returning Christmas day should change rain to light snow. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.
Some uncertainty remains regarding the track of this storm so stay tuned for later forecasts.
Those planning on traveling over the Holiday... especially north or west... should monitor forecasts and travel conditions for those areas... and be prepared for significant travel impacts north and west of Indiana.
