Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 2:44 PM CDT on May 25, 2012

... Record or near record heat expected this Holiday weekend...

Be prepared for a hot Memorial Day weekend... with near record
high temperatures in the mid 90s... with even upper 90s possible in
some locations. Due to a lack of high surface moisture... heat
index values should stay close to the actual air temperatures...
generally in the mid to upper 90s. This will be the warmest air
this area has seen so far this year. The last time it was this
warm... was back in the early part of September 2011.

People should be prepared to deal with the affects of this
prolonged period of hot weather. Follow the basic rules of heat
safety to keep from becoming overheated. Drink plenty of
water... wear light colored... light weight clothing... and avoid
strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day. Take
frequent breaks and be sure to put on a high spf sunscreen to
limit the potential for sunburn. Make sure pets have plenty of
fresh water.

In addition... with moderate to severe drought conditions in
place... the risk of wildfires will be increased somewhat. Caution
should be exercised with any outdoor burning this weekend. On the
positive side... southerly winds will be much lighter than they
were on Thursday... and humidities will run a bit higher.
