Freezing Fog Advisory | |

Statement as of 3:06 AM CST on December 22, 2009 ... Freezing fog advisory in effect until 9 am CST this morning... The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a freezing fog advisory... which is in effect until 9 am CST this morning. * Areas of freezing fog will continue to develop... and will persist into mid morning. * Fog this morning will likely deposit a light coating of ice on some bridges and overpasses. * Some elevated roadways will become very slick and hazardous. In addition... areas of dense fog will restrict visibilities to less than a half mile. Precautionary/preparedness actions... Motorists are urged to slow down... and leave plenty of distance between you and other vehicles. Do not use high beam headlights... as this may create additional glare. Be alert for icy areas... especially on elevated roadways. |

Statement as of 1:45 AM CST on December 22, 2009 ... Freezing fog possible early this morning... Fog was gradually becoming more widespread early this morning. South of a line from Perryville Missouri... through Marion Illinois... to Madisonville Kentucky... many locations were reporting visibility around one mile as of 1 am. Poplar Bluff Missouri reported dense fog with a visibility of one quarter mile. Temperatures are near or slightly below freezing. As a result... the fog may deposit a very thin coating of ice on some bridges and overpasses. The greatest risk of this occurrence is over southeast Missouri and The Purchase area of western Kentucky... where temperatures are near 30 degrees. Through at least sunrise... motorists are urged to use special caution on bridges. Be alert for icy spots on elevated roadways. My |
